Building on the successful launch of the Inspire to Rise program, the first cohort of teenage mothers in Mathare, Ngong, has gained valuable business skills such as soap making. These practical skills are helping them start and grow profitable micro-businesses, empowering them to save money and move toward financial independence.
In partnership with KCB Kenya, the participants received comprehensive financial literacy training aimed at strengthening their money management capabilities. They were guided through the process of opening bank accounts and taught the critical differences between transactional and savings accounts.
This knowledge equips them to better manage their personal and business finances, encourages a culture of saving, and provides access to safer financial services. Additionally, the training included budgeting basics, understanding credit options, and insights into building creditworthiness, enabling these young mothers to make informed financial decisions and build a solid economic foundation for the future.
As these teenage girls and mothers continue to build on their newfound skills and confidence, they embody resilience and serve as beacons of inspiration for others facing similar challenges. The ongoing mentorship and support they receive ensure that this progress is sustainable, fueling lifelong growth and leadership.
